This is a clip from ABC 13 in Houston, Texas. ABC asked the local Grand Slam Garage Sales to give them some garage sale tips. Note to you viewers...there are a few things in this clip that are wrong. In the clip, the Houston manager (Kegan) says that GSGS is owned and operated by high school students. That was mistaken. He just didn't say it correctly as this was before we were franchising! The workers who work the jobs are high school and college students and the franchisees and corporate staff are made up of all sorts of people including many adults. Also, the news reporter says that everything is sold for $1. That's actually a humurous mistake!:) We sell many smaller items for $1 and never less, but by no means do we sell everything for $1.

One day not too long ago, Ben Weissenstein, a senior in high school at the time, was helping his mom set up her yard sale. Although he had been to numerous yard sales over the years, he had never been involved in the set up process before. As he was helping her, he had an idea. Why not do this kind of thing on a much bigger scale?

Weissenstein, who is a senior at Episcopal High School this year, has created a successful business of managing people's garage sales for them, hassle-free.
...From where we sit, it looks like he'll succeed. After all, as CEO of a company he started when he was still a minor, Weissenstein is in rarefied company. Bill Gates started Microsoft at age 20. Weissenstein is even younger, and he's not slowing down anytime soon.

"The stuff just flew out of here," said Wade McCloud, a junior at Episcopal High and a happy employee of B&E Garage Sales, founded and staffed by high school students. "It's a good concept," McCloud said admiringly. "I wish I'd thought of it."
